Nick is a DPhil student in the Oxford Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics in the Mathematical Institute, whose research is focussed on modelling the production of thin glass sheets. In particular, why imperfections may form and what can influence the buckling of the sheets. To do so, asymptotic techniques are used to take advantage of the thinness of the glass, and the resulting PDEs are then solved either analytically or numerically.
