OxFN workshop on large-deformation mechanics of fluids with complex rheology

This is a reminder that the next OxFN workshop will be held on 22 & 23 October (Week 2) with the theme of large-deformation mechanics of fluids with complex rheology. The theme is intended to include research from across disciplines including engineering, soft-matter physics, applied mathematics, Earth sciences and biology.  We expect an eclectic mix and welcome contributions related to, for example: non-Newtonian flows, flows accompanied by phase change or reaction, flows associated with material failure.

https://sites.google.com/view/oxfordfluidsworkshop2019 — registration open through this Friday.

We have an exciting lineup of keynote speakers:

  • Tal Cohen (MIT) — Growth, instability, and failure: bringing order into the chaos of natural phenomena

  • Luis Cueto-Felgueroso (U Politécnica de Madrid) — title TBD

  • Xiaojing (Ruby) Fu (U California, Berkeley) — title TBD

  • Tobias Keller (U Glasgow) — Modelling magma transport with rock failure: the effective-viscosity approach

  • Ludovic Pauchard (CNRS / U Paris Sud) — Mechanical instabilities induced by drying complex fluids

The workshop will feature talks in the afternoons (only) on both days, with the mornings reserved for informal discussions and meetings. In addition to the keynote talks, the workshop will feature a selection of shorter contributed talks and, if there is sufficient interest, a poster session.
